FINDING ROBERT KING
Robert King is my 6x great grandfather being born circa 1750. He and his wife Susannah brought up a family in Barking, Essex and their children were baptised at St Margaret’s church. The registers of the church showed that there were many families named King, probably interlocking, in Barking, but a baptism for Robert was not there.
Jack Baxter searched his Essex Marriages Database but could not find a suitable marriage for Robert and Susannah in Essex and advised looking in the London Boroughs – where a marriage was found of Robert King to Susannah Golding in 1774 in Whitechapel.
Susannah Golding proved to come from Romford, Essex. I know from researching in this area of Essex that at this time it was quite common for young couples living here to marry in London churches. So although Robert King could originate from London, I think it is likely he is to be found in the Romford, Barking, Dagenham area of Essex.
