FINDING JOHN AND ELIZABETH READ of LEYTON

Each step of the Read line has proved difficult.. Now I am back to John Read, a coachman, b circa 1774 and his wife Elizabeth who lived in the Leyton area of Essex in the earliest years of the nineteenth century.

His birth date is known from his death in 1829 in Leyton and I would like to find both his baptism and marriage to Elizabeth.

One child was baptised in Wanstead, Essex in 1802 and three more up to 1809 in Leyton.

There has been no evidence found that John Read was born or married in this area of Essex and, owing to Leyton’s close proximity to the London boroughs, it is suspected that his marriage and/or baptism will be found there. It is known that both John’s sons married in London.

Unfortunately the name is common and several baptisms found on the IGI fit what is known:-
JOHN REED 22 AUG 1773 SPITALFIELDS TO JOHN & MARY
JOHN READ 20 MAR 1773 HOLBORN TO THOMAS & ISABELLA
JOHN REED 20 NOV 1774 ST GEORGE IN THE EAST TO JOHN & ELIZABETH
JOHN READ 13 JUN 1775 SHOREDITCH TO JOHN & MARY

A search was carried out on the Essex Marriage database 1792 – 1802 but nothing suitable was found.

Two marriages (IGI) in London look possible

29 May 1797 JOHN READ & ELIZABETH MOORE St Leonards Shoreditch
11 Jun 1797 JOHN REED & ELIZABETH CASTLE St Leonards Shoreditch

I WOULD BE GRATEFUL IF YOU HAVE ANY INFORMATION OR COULD ELIMINATE ANY OF THE POSSIBLES I HAVE SUGGESTED
